This record starts with kick-ass song "Embody the Invisible" and continues with also cool song "Ordinary Story". Other favorites: "Resin", "Behind Space '99" (which totally needed the improvement from the last version) and "Insipid". Those three songs are quite good, very much in the state of "Clayman"-album's songs. I'd give this record 90 out of 100. If you don't have it, buy it.

This is one of the best melodic black/deathmetal albums ever made. I am ashamed I only know this CD and "Clayman" of In Flames, but I can conclude that (for me) In Flames one of the best melodic black/deathmetal bands is. Songs like 'Ordinary Story' and 'Colony' are really kick-ass songs... I play this record when I want to hear something heavy but still catchy and poppy, so let's say something heavy but not too heavy :o)

it's obvious that is a great album from the first hearing.
i like the most "coerced coexistence" and, ofcourse,"colony".
it is a very good band, and those sweddish deathers ,they really have something to say in this metal world.hope they will always keep that way.

The change of style since the last record is obvious in each In Flames album. To me this is an excellent shit. It really helped me tace care of some fuck-ups in my life some time ago, when I first heard it. My faves are "Coerced Coexistence", "Insipid" and the new version of "Behind Space". In the japanese edition there is also a "Clad In Shadows" re-recording.

In Flames at their peak. Easily their best musicianship, without a poor song on the entire album. The solos inspired me to share every single one of them with my friends and family, even though they all hate metal. They agreed with me that they were a damn good musical band, but that they should just stop screaming. I don't think so. Anders finds his voice and Jespers wails like he hasn't since December Flower on The Jester Race in this album on not just one, but multiple songs. A technical accomplishment in any sense of the term. Everybody really shines on this album, and it goes in my top 5 albums of all time.

Colony is one of In Flames' better albums, and definately worth listening to if you liked any of their stuff before it. I'm not going to list every single song like I did with Clayman, but I'll describe my favorites from it in order of when they appear in the CD. Just to make this clear, there really isn't a single bad song on this album -- I'll even be daring enough and call it In Flames at their prime. Anders didn't sound like crap, Jesper screamed like a mofo, and everything sounded great.

Embody the Invisible is one of my favorites on this album, and also the opening song to the album. It begins and remains fast-paced and loud as hell during the entire song. If you've listened to "Clayman", this song will most likely remind you of Swim. Err, Swim with the bass cranked up a lot. Embody the Invisible was an excellent choice to start an album off, like a shot of coffee to start a day at 5 am.

Next on my list is Ordinary Story. For many In Flames fans, this has been your favorite song for at least a day. The tune is catchy, the song is loud, and it's different from everything else. It has hints of what was to come with "Reroute to Remain", but it was much MUCH better.

Next, we have Resin. If I had to pick a favorite, Resin is it. The tune is loud, evil, and fitting. It's one of those songs that can paint its own vivid picture in your mind just by listening to it. The guitar solo in this song and the lyrics that lead up to it are excellent.

My next favorite is Behind Space '99. I'm assuming most of you have heard the original Behind Space, so I'll keep things vague for those who haven't. The entire song sounds improved upon to me compared to the original (which was my favorite Lunar Strain song). One of my gripes is that the part of the song where everything breaks down and we are "entering dimensions behind space" wasn't nearly as well done as the original. My other gripe is that it lacks the acoustic part at the end. This album REALLY needed it. If you've heard the original but not this one, picture it louder, with more drums, and... better.

If you like Melo-death, this is the CD to get. Who am I kidding, if you like melo-death, you have this already.
