Well, I have to say that this is the shittiest black metal album ever heard. I hate the start of Starforsaken and Hårgalåten is convicted to doom even before it was released. The stupid string settlement was too much for me to bear. The saving song was the second part of the Everlost.

Death Metal is usually taken to be a sound carnage. I really like that kind of music. But were bands always that good? Whoever can play, plays till he wakes up - then begins the real nightmare. Behind Space is a classic even before you hear it. Being the first official album of the band, Lunar Strain brings something new to metal scene. At The Gates and Dark Tranquillity had already given their early stuff and In Flames was what made the swedish scene really heat up. Classic after a beautyful classic is what we get, even though I kind of dislike the two parts of Everlost and Haergalaeten. These are good sounding tracks, but they are unnecessary in that kind of music. Luckyly, In Flames never did that again. Even though, the album remains a classic. Everything from Behind Space, through Starforsaken, to Clad In Shadows, might be worth it.

Its not what I always listen to (brutal metal fan), but its cool to hear a band (in this case "albums")that is different to everything I've ever heard before, mixing melody, in first place, and black\death metal in second place, very good solos and the voice is ok. 10\10

In Flames has tried a number of different approaches to death metal over the course of their career, some of which people dislike, some people like. Lunar Strain is no different. Along with the usual instrumentation, they bring in a stringed instrument, sounding like a violin or something similar. The track Hargalaten has one of the most interesting sounds I've heard. They pair electric guitar with the violin and play along with each other. Amazing. Along with that Everlost parts 1 and 2 are also awesome. Pt. 2 is an acoustic melody with a beautiful female vocalist. Is this the heaviest, most brutal music you've ever heard? Probably not, however if you give it a chance, you will discover that In Flames has SO much to offer. You NEED to hear this cd and all their others. 10/10
