Do not expect Death Metal in any form! not even Metal.
This is a different
experience completely, more akin to Pink Floyd etc.
Great progressive rock. For us oldies who used to love
YES, Genesis, Rush etc back in the 70s I would say this
is a must

what a damn good work!!
Forget the past and lead the new direction shown by this incredible swedish band. At the end of the path their weakness, your joy!
ten stars out of ten **********

Yea, this album is so melow, and has a nice touch of old-record violins going on. This is the kind of album you can just sit back, close your eyes and just relax. Awesome album if you like to mellow out.

Very good work of Akerfeldt & co. This album sounds very different as all the other releases.
It's an album to relax, really good work.

Especially windowpane is a good song, i likes it most of the hole album.
Damnation 8 points out of 10 for me!

Being a huge Opeth fan this is not what I had expected at all. Fortunately for me I absolutely love it. Don't expect any Death growls, this is not a metal album. This time around as they opt for a more progressive sound but they do it so well. Opeth proved once again that they can do whatever they set out to do and do it well.

Some people complain this release is a piece of fucking shit ~ to those people: SHUT THE FUCK UP.

Indeed, the music of Damnation is damn good, I always like Opeth making this type of mellow music, very enjoyable ... Mikael clean vox always kick ass, and the lyrics are simple but meaning is deep ~ I love it a lot.

Most favorite track: In My Time of Need.

10/10

opeth has done it again coming out with a new masterpeice
to add to the collection all though its as much redefinig as develping the contantly chainging style wich adds new
to old as progresive bands often do it stands alone as
an art work that all musicans and fans of truly good
music can apreciate opeths damnation containig acustic guitars melletrons bass beats drum snares deeply poetic bleak sarrowfull sonic scapes with its lyrics and even
a fender rhodes to top it off from start to finsh leaving you empty begging for more to fill you up with another serving of opeths non conventional adictive delicacy
99/100 on the live renacment.if you want more out of music this is defenatly one of those kind of albums

Opeth Damnation, feels like its a new "Approach" different than the one they have been using.. i noticed some mellow tracks on some albums, yes, but i guess they wanted to "Show it off" so the people know how creative they are. and i admit, they are very creative, i liked this album alot. and it is really a masterpiece, simple lyrics.. but it hides alot of meanings behind these simple words.. everytime u hear it while you are reading the lyrics, you feel it, you even can imagine the situation Mike is describing.. thats the top of geniousity, that you can feel what he wanted to make you feel through simple words.. this album really deseves the 10 out of 10.. because its a masterpiece.. and i love it as much as i love Deliverance.. a "MUST-BUY" album really..

An amazing display of maturity and discovery. Perfect production is able to capture the sounds of old. OPETH proves themselves as not only the greatest band in metal today, but probably the most talented band in modern music. DAMNATIONS soft brooding atmospheres creates a world of melancholy and serenity. Is it possible that the greatest 70's progressive rock album ever, has come to us almost 30 years later? OUTSTANDING! Forrest.

Don't know if they're going to continue with this style of music... hope not, cause I'll forever miss old opeth.. in my times of need...
Aside that, sometimes it's great to change the sound a bit, and this is it, a true masterpiece, with great music, great lyrics, great bassaxes, great guitars, great drums, great voices(damn, did I forgot something?), true, this is simply Opeth in it's best... as I said I hope they're not going to continue with this mellow style..but it is necessary to change a bit of tunes, sometimes.... this is fresh, this is good, this is amazing, this is just too damn good..
Close your eyes, put on the play, and let your muscles relax, your mind enter in a state of deep calmness, and let Mikael's words enter in your soul...
Come on guys... search for money in your pockets, if you haven't, go steal whoever you like and BUY THIS RIGHT NOW... 10/10

worst album ive ever heard!load of crap and a waste of money!

Shit, just when you think that a band has done it all, they fucking hit you again, with a new sound which has some sounds from Pink Floyd and old Beatles tracks. This album is fucking outstanding, what a work of art. Very emotional, everytime i hear "Hope Leaves" or "To Rid The Disease" I get crazy teary-eyed. Fucking 10/10. Seriously get it.

Whats funny is that Opeth changed their sound COMPLETELY to make this album and yet, they aren't criticized. But other bands like In Flames and Metallica go bashed SUPER HARD. Whys that, oh well, makes no difference.

this is okay but Deliverance is infinitely better, if the next release is the same style as this one Opeth will be dead to me

Review by: deathshandbag

This album TRULY sets aside the men from the boys (True Oeth fans/Narrow minded false fans), this is Opeth practacing their art and taking things to new levels. If I was to describe my favourite sound in metal Opeth would be it! The way they have a classic sound but yet take this and their style to a newer and deeper level than anythin that has gone before. Real metal for Real metal fans, even though this album is acoustic it's still has what it takes.

Goddamn it, 11 out of 10 for this 1 :)

there is no other band like OPETH-you can not say for no other band that they play exactly like OPETH all their stuff is inteligent and good HAIL FROM SOFIA

Review by: iudicium

"Damnation" is softer and more mellow in terms of what the typical metal album sounds like. However, the songs are delicately moving and the lyrics heartfelt and poetic. The best songs would have to be " To Rid the Disease", "Hope Leaves", and "Windowpane". Though, "Death Whispered a Lullaby" and "In My Time of Need" are both equally engaging. It illuminates a different side of human nature, one grappling with his own existence( "In My Time of Need")and gently reflecting upon life itself.
