As far as I'm concerned, there are allot of bands in Europe these days doing Gothic Metal, and doing it well. In my estimation, there are three bands leading the way. Tristania, Within Temptation and undoubtedly After Forever is new to the scene, but are slowly beginning to lead the way. Lets take the vocalists in these three monster bands for instance, for these are the elements that drive the music in the first place. They are all top notch singers and have very similar styles, but Floor Jansen of After Forever, to me is the most emotional I have heard. Don't get me wrong, Vibeke Stene of Tristania and Sharon den Adel of Within Temptation are good and very emotional in their own right, but I don't think they hit the top the way Floor does. This babe has got the voice right out of heaven. Beautifully done, Floor. As for the music, this release, Decipher is octaves way above the previous release, Prison of Desire, not that that album was bad or something, but this latest release shows a markedly decisive progression in the bands ability to improve musically. We are witnessing one of the greats of Gothic Metal today in After Forever. If you know of this band at all, do not hesitate. You must have this album, period. | Review by: DENNIS R. i have to agree with the one who posted the above review, AFTER FOREVER surely know how to play, and the lead female vocals knows how to explore her own voice, she is very intellegent person, how ever, after i listend to this album, i feel that the album dosent have "new material" the riffs are the same as the old albums. but all in all, this band is on my top list =] peace, love and Pot Review by: doomish This cd rulezzz! The female vocals are excelent and these guys offer us an inivate sound. A mix between progressive ways, classical music, Gothic metal and even Death Metal linked with excelent lyrics. Basically inspired in Judas Priest, Nightwish, Wagner, Dissection, Europe and Film Music. A MUST for everyone who likes good music. Review by: Decipher I don't really understand why all the reviews in the magazines were so positive about this one. I seem to be the only one who thinks Prison of Desire is much more brilliant than this. Don't get me wrong, this is by no means a bad cd, but I got tired of it pretty quickly and it doesn't have the same freshness as Prison had. They've gotten slightly more bombastic too and that's a letdown. Still, there are some awesome tracks on this disc. And it's STILL way better than disgusting stuff like Within Temptation have become.
