Agathodaimon is really disappointing on this Serpent's Embrace release. Chapter III was the band's apotheosis, showing the art the members were able to create.
Now Serpent's Embrace is something else. It should attract another clientèle : mallcore dikheds and nu-metal shitfaces...
This album is simply Pop music mixed with nu-metal.
there are two possible explanations for this:
1) This is a fake: it is not an Agathodaimon release (this is sadly not true)
2) Agathodaimon have "naturally evolved" towards commercial music as fukin too many bands are doing...
this IS sad...

Serpent's Embrace is an ok album. Sathonys really changed Agathodaimon's line-up this time. It seems to me that the new keyboard player gave the band a new "electronic" touch. Serpent's Embrace is definitely the best song of the album. The opening track "Cellos For The Insatiable" is another great song. Now, if you've never heard about Agathodaimon before, I strongly suggest you first go through "Blacken The Angel" which, undoubtely, has got one of the best metal songs ever: "Banner Of Blasphemy" and the best Agathodaimon album so far: "Chapter III".

I don't think this album is really that bad, but it's not very good either, and their sound has most definetely changed. As previous reviwers have said, it's a lot more techno based, there are more clean vocals, and even a few samples. The only song I really cared for was the opener, Cellos for the Insatiable, and Solitude wasn't all that bad (it's a nice mellow piece with female vocals), but nothing else really captured my interest. It's definetely a step down from Chapter III, but I don't think this band is lost (a la Theatre of Tragedy) quite yet.

I'll begin with a very simple remark: take out Solitude and this is an excellent album. Probably, to many metal-heads out there, this melody dragged the album to a very low mark. However, I'm not your everyday metal-head. I'm an open minded metal-head so to speak :). Thus, I will judge the album my way, as all of you do.

Agathodaimon were always a good black metal band. Lately (specially starting from Chapter III) they added some female vocals to the sound (I really don't like the "Sacred Divinity" melody from that album). This is not the case with "Solitude". This is 80% not metal. But it's a good song nevertheless. Of course, depends to how much tolerant you can be. I can be quite a lot, and if it sounds good, I don't care if it's symphonic, pop-metal (haha) or rap. If it sounds good and it's not silly, then it's ok.

As for the instrumental and creative side, Serpent's Embrace is the best piece of record these fellows ever made. Original, diverse, symphonic and aggressive. Nevermind "Solitude", even with that, I still gave this album 9 out of 10. It's a good record, different from the rest and this is what makes a band challanging and entertaining.

Serpent's embrace and the first couple of tracks on this album are very catchy, vocally and instrumentally melodic, these tracks are incredibly tight. These guys are amazingly skilled and it shows in how tight they have theirs tracks.

The tracks show some nice arpeggios in both keyboard and guitar. The clean vocals are properly justified by dirty vocals.

There are some very effective effects used on this album thoughout, such as "Faded Years" reversal of the guitar ring, seems very natural proves an extra rythmic element.

You should check out this album for Serpent's Embrace alone.

When I heard this Serpent's Embrace, I didn't believe it was Agathodaimon at first, but then I heard some elements of the guitaring style. This is truly a new direction for Agathodaimon. Excellent. I believe this album deserves
8 out of 10. Buy it.

This album is kind of a let down. Not as good as Chapter III or Blacken.
