i'd call this album "the death metal mainstream". | overall, no matter how mainstream and commercialized this is, it still sounds pretty damn fine, at least at first listen two - but after a while it sounds like a bunch of people gathered together for the bucks and fans, doing theyr best to be loved by everyone..and it's damn shallow. as for the production - the same. it seems heavy - but it's not at all, even the drums sound at times as if the drummer played on his wooden desk instead of drum set. bottom line, pure shit. Review by: forgotten This is actually a pretty boring album. The songs are quite similar and throughout each song they repeat the same riff too much. The guitar sound is thin and the vocalist is not very good. Review by: xxdp This album is OK. No surprises after all. A classic Amon Amarth album. But: -It's the band's worst album (but it's still a good album)! -It's more melodic, less brutal and less 'viking' than their previous releases. -The production and the vocals are far worse than their 2 previous releases. Review by: forestarm This isn't that bad of an album. Not Amon Amarths greatest work, but not pure shit either. The bonus cd is greath though, lots of old materia. Review by: arthas Amon Amarth at their best. Vocals, drumming, and guitar work sounds better on Versus the World than any other AA release. Other than a couple of ballad sounding songs (Across the Rainbow Bridge, Thousand Years of Oppression) there is nothing that sounds commercial about this album - something I've heard a few times. Best tracks include: Vs. the World, Where Silent Gods Stand Guard, and Down the Slopes of Death. Review by: Mad-Dog-Ulfhedinn-793 To me Amon Amarth has a totally lack of depth. There is no feeling and no atmosphere. Just a bunch of standard riffs and pathetic lyrics that seems to be written by a kindergarden-child. And not to mention the album-cover....yuck... Compared to bands like Enslaved and Thyrfing Amon Amarth has absolutely nothing to come up with. One word: Pathetic Review by: winterspell
