a litte diferent from the older graveland albuns. more like a viking metal fase. is not bad in fact is vary great..rominds me a lot of bathory from hammerheart/twilight of the gods.
only that the graveland vocals still as brutal as a nothern cold wind....

Is it just me, or does Graveland seem to labor under the idea that Poland is actually a Scandinavian country and that they (Darken and Capricornous) are actually Viking warriors preparing to defend Odin from Christian invaders? If this was not your picture of Graveland before listening to this album, it will be afterwards, as "Creed Of Iron" manages to out-Viking most of the so-called "Viking metal" bands currently on the market.

First, the good.

"Creed Of Iron" is majestic and anthemic, in stark contrast to the bleak grimness of earlier works such as "The Celtic Winter" and "Thousand Swords." Unlike earlier Graveland works, this album is accessible and easy to listen to. I wouldn't say that the songs are "catchy," but they are non-complex and easy to grasp. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending upon how you look at it), Graveland is incapable of appealing to a mass audience, so we elitists can still keep them hidden away from the rest of the wicked world. The epic structure of this album is also something new for Graveland. With the exception of the introduction track (Blood And Ash), all of the songs on this album run in excess of nine and a half minutes, and all of the songs seem to fade into one another as if they were some Wagnerian opera with different movements.

Now, the bad.

The main problem with "Creed Of Iron," as I see it, is that there is little variation. All of the songs build upon the same central theme and as a result seem ultimately redundant. The lengths of the songs may wind up making some people disinterested (or even put them to sleep), and they would miss some otherwise great Graveland moments.

Overall?

"Creed Of Iron" is ambitious, but never lapses into self-aggrandization or pretentiousness. Although it may be hard for some people to let go of the preconceived notions they have about Graveland, others among us will appreciate this work of art. If I could compare it to any other metal album, I would unhesitatingly choose Burzum's "Hvis Lyset Tar Oss."

I would have to say overall this is a very good album. The only thing that gets to me and makes me upset is he had to use drum machine. GRAVELAND SHALL RISE AGAIN !!!!!
