the best judas iscariot release till now, very good old-school blackmetal... playing the style of old darkthrone, mayhem and burzum, but with an own style, this is very misanthropic blasphemous hateful blackmetal, not to be missed!

Judas Iscariot, the one-man project of American black metal fiend Akhenaten, has produced an epic work of nihilist majesty with 1999's "Heaven In Flames." As it stands, this album is one the "truest" releases from a black metal band in the last 4 years. Influences from Burzum, Graveland, and particularly Darkthrone should be readily apparent to any seasoned fan of black metal, although Akhenaten manages to sound exactly like none of them. The man's dedication to the BM scene is legendary (read any interview that he has conducted) and it really shows here. Keyboards are only used on one track, and only then to enhance the grim, ambient atmosphere that he has successfully strove to create. The songs on "Heaven In Flames" are similar yet distinguishable. It's true that Akhenaten is not much of a technically proficient drummer, but simple blast-beating and droning one-two beats are sometimes all that is needed to make quality black metal. The best songs on the album, in my opinion, are Eternal Bliss...Eternal Death, From Hateful Visions (eclectic), and Spill The Blood Of The Lamb.

Akhenaten continues his war with the good sound of Heaven in Flames...
Fast, powerfull rythems followed by slow, emotional chords mark this album of Judas Iscarioth. With a sound reminding me of Nargaroth and Darkthrone, but still carrying his own signature Akhenaten creates another masterpiece.

This is in my opinion one of the better albums I'v bought recently. It's simply great because I just couldn't find not one weak song on this CD, and that's rare. It really has a grim feeling to it, as opposed to so many bands whose sound gets labeled as being "grim". With this one, I could really feel it. That's the way how it should be. As for the drumming, I agree with Mr. MikhailKonstantinov. Sure it isn't the best drumming in the world, and there might not be so much variation in it, but it works very well in contributing to the songs! In short, don't miss it.

Honestly, sometimes I feel Judas Iscariot is just making same shit for every album (due to the drum), but I still like this band due to its raw sound and evilness. However, I should say that Heaven's In Flame should be the best Judas Iscariot album with some more unique and outstanding tracks such as Before a circle of darkness and From hateful visions.

This was the best J.I. cd up to this point. Very grim ,evil hateful music . From looking at the cover to hearing the cd .. its old school black metal like old darkthrone, burzum ,but with its own charm ..not one weak song so i really have no clear faves ..The whole damn thing is great !!
I'd give this cd a 9 out of 10
If you have never heard Judas Iscariot .... shame on you while you are at it check out Krieg too !!!

An album, that proves, that they also can make pretty classy blackmetal in the homeland of hamburger ;)
If i wouldnt know any better, i just might think, this is made in Norway, where the roots of northern black metal leads.
A good album and a band. Blackmetal made in oldschool northern style..

This was the second (or perhaps third) JJ-album I had the pleasure of listening to...and it most certainly was a pleasure to the mind!! Atmospheric BM like only Darkthrone or possibly Burzum could do it. This is an album of pure hatered! Could this dark, american soul be of norwegian heritage..?

10/10 points for sure!!

Raw black emotion. Incredible songs. Music to die for...or die to. An Eternal Kingdom of Fire, and Gaze Upon Heaven in Flames will destroy you. Although faster and rather more technical, I recommend you also to listen to Lunar Aurora's Ars Moriendi (original version, probably the best balck metal cd ever) or their Zyklus, for that bleak, empty rawness inherent here.(I thought I'd throw a spanner in the works, and be the one not mention the mighty Burzum or Darkthrone for a change.)

The first Judas Iscariot album i ever listened too ...

The production with the bassdrum nearly gone was new to me, but it pleased me, and so did the diversity of his vocals.

Whilst listening to it, i could not supress a feeling of cold darkness creeping on me. This is exactly what i expect from a black metal album of this sort. The keyboard steps in at especially well chosen moments and enhances the sound to the atmosphere which makes me shiver, although it simplicity surprised me.

This album is another proof to me, that good bands are usually driven by one mastermind (just like Burzum and Nargaroth), and that usually there are no additional members.

Get this album, if you feel like listening to some genious yet simple compositions.
