i'll tell you the reason of why this band is the same shit that the other 50 norwegian black metal bands....They're the same guys, and seem like Norway is in a big musical crisis, there's like 20 guys and like 70 bands with the same members....and the sound is the same.....nothing original, just the same shit...they're ripping us off...This attitude sucks....Gimme' somenthing new boys, common, or are they loosing their "amazing" musical talent?...May be they just a bunch of phonies...

A lot of my friends suprised me by not liking this album (The second version). I think it's great, it's not like newer Kovenant at all but it's a awesome black metal album. I can pretty much put this CD in at anytime and enjoy the music. The re-release has a bit of electronical touch to it but not a lot, just good metal.

The original's a BM classic. Prince Nagash is a genius, or at least, WAS a genius til he started dressing in drag. The re-release was a good album, but a SHITTY Covenant album. The guy before me was right, there's like 20 guys in 70 norwegian bands... take Covenant and Troll for example... same fucks, Nagash, Blackheart, Hellhammer, what the fuck IS that? that's like Covenant!! Well in any case, I heard nine out of ten songs off the original (I didn't hear Dragonstorms until lately), and I own the re-release (a gift from an aunt - i didn't even know this version existed!)... The Kovenant's trying to put their new name on every fucking album they've ever made as the Kovenant... and that's disgusting.

Oh guys Slow Down with the the negative criticism.I wouldn't say this album is a masterpiece , NOT AT ALL. Still it is a pretty good album it is true sometimes it sounds a bit repetitive , but anyway the instrumental part is quite good and i like those choirs although the main vocalist (i dont know his name) tends to piss me off with his screams every now and then.
All in all i would give it 7/10.

Hehe.

Yeah that was an old friend of mine. Typical uber-closed minded black metal fan LOL.

I, on the other hand, the REAL Malevolant (spelled incorrectly on purpose) Seraph, didn't like the re-release at first much, yes. But I first heard Covenant back when Animatronic came out, I heard the black metal stuff, the Nexus stuff, and the electronic stuff... frankly it's weird. Not the same band that they were when they put out the black metal release. Personally they're two different albums, by pretty much two different bands. They made their mark in black metal and moved on, kind of like Ulver did with Madrigal of Night. You can only do so much, and they achieved it.

In terms of this particular re-release, it's funky. At first I thought they were mocking their older work, which made me bitter. But more and more, I enjoyed it. It's a different take on a black metal classic.

This is one of my favorite albums of all time. The production on this album creates one of the most dark and epic atmospheres I have ever heard, and the songs are very well written also. 10/10!

Back in the 90s, when they were still known as Covenant, this Norwegian band fronted by Nagash (ex-Dimmu Borgir bassist) released a really fine piece of melodic black metal, this album.

Fans of Dimmu Borgir will definitely be pleased with the sound, this has everything they loved in For All Tid and Stormblast: distorted guitars, shrieked vocals (though Nagash has a distinct voice - troll), and of course the keyboards as lead instrument with all that you could ask from them: flutes, orchestral strings, pianos, whitles, you name it.

The one downside of this album is that when they decide to make guitar-centered songs, they don't come off as catchy and rather bland. Of course, there are still some masterpieces that will catch your ears such as the opener track, and overall I think this is a solid release! If you find it on a cheap price, buy it.
Rating: 8/10
Favorite tracks: Towards the Crown of Nights, From the Storm of Shadows
