this was an amazing album.one of the best i've ever heard.has it's own sound nothing like it.fast guitars, with crushing drums.guitar riffs are awesome as well.i think galder should have stuck with old mans child then going to dimmu borgir.pick this one up if you dont have it.it doesnt have that true norweigan black metal style but it's own style of black metal.a 10 on a sacle to 1-10 | Review by: slaughterlord A more brutal approach than The Pagan Prosperity, which isn't a bad thing, and the fact that Gene Hoglan (this man need absolutely no introduction after having performed on Death-Symbolic and playing in the legendary Dark Angel in the 80's to name a few) is pummeling on drums like only him can do it help to add some agressivity. Galder serves us a platter a 8 well-conceived melodic/atmospheric black metal compositions, Old Man's Child being often compared (and with reasons) to Dimmu Borgir. I can't find much originality on this but it does put a smile on my face at every listen. It is enjoyable indeed, 'God of impiety' is a great song, and for those of you who liked their black metal very accesible and with a slight touch of keyboard should't be disapointed. But for others (like me) who needs more than it-has-all-been-done-before-straight-from-the-book-black metal, you won't find yourself truly satisfied at the end of your listen, as if something was missing. Really, there's something lacking here, but I can't figure out what it is. Review by: arckangell Old Man's Child - Ill-Natured Spiritual Invasion Released on Century Media in 1998. Well, this is the band of the legend norwegian guitarist Galder. It's third album "Ill-Natured Spiritual Invasion" really kicks ass being the best album of that norwegian cult metal act. If no one has ever heard this band, I suggest that you start from here. This way you can find the best feeling Old Man's Child have ever captured. The fact is that when Old Man's Child kind of broke up, Galder had some new songs he wanted to release. With no drummer in the band, that wasn't possible, so he hired that deathmetalmachine Gene Hoglan to play battery. His drumming isn't at his best, but his drum sounds really are! They're sharp, but that's the way I like them so much. Songs are also great, which I really doubted arfter hearing the previous album "The Pagan Prosperity". If you are familiar with the finnish speed metal band Stratovarius, you can hear their hit's ("Black Diamond") melody as a melody of "God of Impiety". Despite that fact, I keep it as the best song from this album. Other favorite songs are "Towards Eternity" and "The Dream Ghost". This is - no doubt - the best opus from Old Man's Child. Even though the others (x-cept "The Pagan Prosperity") were not bad. You should get this immediately. Thanx for your time. Music - 89 Lyrics - 80 Playing - 88 Singing - 85 Sound - 94 Overall - 87 out of 100 Review by: Punisher this is imo one of the best black metal albums, very melodic with much nice synth and piano. this album is fucking awsome, by far the best old mans child album Review by: moberg ummmm, what is this? this is DEFINETALY a weird release. it seems that this album is a death metal production, but it's STILL black metal. this is much better than the pagan prosperity in my opinion. this is also the FIRST album that galder shifted his vocals to deep growls and singing. it also features the GREATEST black metal drummer ever! GENE HOGLAN!!! gotta love his atmospheric drumming. i give it 9/10 Review by: 666_isthmar_666 HA HA HA HA let me tell you a story once upon a time a idiot (me) decide to make some shopping for new c.d when one of his friend said hey look at this band it was guess what dimmu bogir the album storm blast pretty good one the next day this f@cking idiot (me)saw old men child ill natured invasion and i buy this rotting crap over thy grand master mayhem ep deathcrush actully the only good song on the cd is god of empyti sorry for the spelling i am a french bastard guitar pretty boring after a while drum seem o.k bass haha bass vocal IT SUCK Review by: Lord Gaziel Nice album! I think this is one of Old Man's child best albums! This songs are so fucking good! Review by: prince of darkness This "Ill Natured Spiritual Invasion" represents quite a lot to me. 3 years ago I listened to it a lot and now when I listen to it, it remembers me of those days (which were quite nice ::- D). Other than this, I must say that this is a very special album. The production ain't so great, but Galder is a friggin musical genius, especially when considering he did all this music all by himself. He only had the assistance of a session drummer, but other than this, the dude really worked this piece of art to perfection all alone. And I mean perfection in Old Man's Child style. The album is full of very hard riffs and the sound is really colorful (abundent with all sorts of different drum arrangements and keyboard swirls). They keyboards are used in good measure, not even a single bit of exaggeration on Galder's part. I'm quite amazed he pulled this off alone. The opener, "Towards Eternety" has a great keyboard intro and it really gives you the feeling of travelling towards something in a fast and determined pace, more like a march. Other highlights include "The Fall Of Man" and "My Evil Revelations" with its great keyboard-piano layer which gives the song an unique note of classical-related instrumentation. All-in-all, this is a strong and innovative black metal album which doesn't exaggerate with the use of keyboards and yet places an emphasis on originality. And the fact that I wrote so much about an album, pretty much proves my point. 10 out of 10 for this album and for Galder's musicianship which continues to impress even with the band's latest release, Vermin. Review by: theaxonn This is my favorite OMC album, the songs are really fast and as you know all the music on the album was not rehearsed and the lyrics were improvised that's what blew my mind and Galder played every instrument exept the drums, but hell he's a genius.
