I can't believe how many ppl like this album ...i heard it before it came out. Does nothing for me, there is no mood set by Opeth in this album it sounds very close to The new Bloodbath with computerized Vocals, which is not what i am looking for. I do not know why Mikeal would change his vocals does he not realize that he is good a what he does. So why change a good thing. Most of the songs on this cd lack the transition that they have in other cds between soft and heavy. Still an ok album but Opeth worst album by for.

At last, the long-awaited opeth masterpiece is out. well actually this album is very good, but it sounds live Steven Willson had to do the whole "A fair judgement" track.. cause its mellow, and i guess it would better fit on Damnation, which will be coming at march 2003.
And i also guess that Katatonia and Dan swano are involved.. i just "Taste" the music of Swano on this album's atmosphere, and the Katatonia "Type-of-artwork" On the cover... well anyways, this album is really good.

i got my limited edition digipack in mail a couple days back and all i can say is WOW! these guys never fail to blow your mind off. the first few minutes from 'a fair judgement' are the most boring and cheesy opeth have ever recorded and thats the only thing keeping me from saying this is their best album yet. that aside, this album has it all. one moment they are playing doom and the other they are playing a chapter out of porcupine tree's repertoire. every listen i discover something new but then, hey, its opeth.
now get off your ass and go buy this album.

Undoubtedly that this is another solid and decent album. I just got the album today, but it did not give me an overwhelming impression like their earlier releases...a typical Opeth style: Death+Doom+ Progressive+little bit fusion..death voice and Mikael nice clean tone..

For the first time, I really like the song A Fair Judgement...However, there is a disappointment when the song "Deliverance" came to an end...in my opinion it sounds so stupid and disturbing......................one mistake could probably destroy the whole album no matter how good other songs are....as someone said before, I also feel the songs of this album is lack of coherence between death tone and clean tone....

May be I still need to listen more then come back to talk shit later..I can't make a grade for this album at this moment.

Incredible!!! Opeth returns to exceed themself. This album is equal or better than Blackwater Park. Martin López is one of my favorites with drums. His style and skills are fucking great!! A pefect mixture between Acoustic and Aggressive sound. Since the brutality of Wreath, passing through the darkest Master´s apprentice until the slow A Fair Judgement. Deliverance is a very good song with a long hypnotic part at the end of the song. Please, listen it and join!!!

I'm sure all of you know this band. Like most bands I review, they are from the Swedish metal scene. Before this album, they released "Black Water Park" which was a great album, but a lot of Opeth fans saw it as a let-down. Fear not, fans. They got right back up and shook off the rust that many of you sensed. The lyrics, as usual, are very thought provoking, and the music is hypnotic (somehow). This entire CD is absolutely amazing. They experiment a little bit, but it all goes well. I don't even know why I had to review this. It's OPETH. It's MANDATORY. Purchase this album, people!

This album from start to finish is outstanding in its changes from death metal style to a cleaner style. Opeth does this better then any other band out there. There style is unmatched by any other band ever.

il l'ont fait ! , opeth has conquered the death metalthrone , indeed , there isn't much place for prog on this album but still there are some great progressive parts like the third track , and the holy 'master's apprentices',
i guess opeth wanted to enjoy both new and older fans with this album ( e.g . still life parts with the older drums),
Every metalguy with brains should have this 94 / 100 .

Quite good, but still less good as all the other releases, i was a little bit dissapointed. After BLACKWATER PARK (their greatest album just a piece of ART!!!) i had hoped for another beauty. It's still good but it's nt so good as i had hoped. 7/10.

I am thinking of opeth that how did they release 7 albums in 8 years and their music is such progressive and long and think of their side projects opeth is one of the most creative band in the metal. not one of the the most creative. ( If we accept King Diamond :) ) and this is their new masterpiece released before damnation ( damnation released in 2 months after delivereance when did they compose their songs I wonder )
and it's fuckin' brilliant as usual very progressive and agressive indeed emotional.
but If you did not listen opeth before start with their early album morningrise and then I guarantee that you will
buy all their albums.
8/10

Sick fucking album. Talk about Hard, this one is fucking intense. Such hard beats, crazy power-chords and double pedal action. Absolutely brilliant. Way to go!! 10/10.

Much better than damnation, this one had all the good songs from that recording session, the title track is killer!

this is the best album i've ever heard...every track in this album is incredible!!! thank you opeth...

There they done it again.......Opeth are superior to everyone else. Damnation is a great record. Better than Still life----no but is still pretty damn good. It has some great songs on it. However if you are just getting into death metal then I recommend a another Opeth record. The first song on this album might be a bit to harsh for newbies to the genre.

Well this album is an amazing peice of work. Songs off that album are all mostly over 10 minutes aside from the instrumental. Not only that but there songs have great integrity and deep meaning. And of course there best song so far is A Fair Judgemnet, so that being said, this album is awsome.

After 2 years of listening i came to the conclusion that this is another great album of this Swedes!
When i first heard the record i was dissapointed, very dissapointed. But then i just made myself to listen to this album over and over again. This ladies and gentleman is ART! Opeth managed to surprise me (and a lot of fans) again, because this record has definitely a different sound than Blackwater Park (altough its co-produce by Steven Wilson -Porcupine Tree- again). Guitars are complex, with lots of riffing and solo's, the drums are loud and flat in the heavy parts and more jazzy in the easy parts. Also the vocals are top-notch again. The growls are just about perfect (definitely -one of- the best in the Death Metal scene), and the clean vocals are also quite good. Favorite tracks are Wreath, Deliverance and Master's Apprentices (song title taken from a psychedelic rock band). BUY IT!

9.2/10

"Deliverance"... a brutally beautiful piece in the opeth universe. The best songs are "Master's Apprentices" and "A Fair Judgment". I would highly recommend it to anyone who is an Opeth or progressive metal band. Richly melodic and brilliantly simple, each songs weaves a mood od dark, eerie silence. A masterpiece.

I like it more than Blackwater Park, way more. The minute after 1:46 in Wreath is one of the most beautiful I've ever heard, another band would have built a song only on that riff, the rest of the song is great too anyway. I can't stand only A Fair Judgement, so I skip it..a shame because the acoustic part in the middle is fantastic. The last song is the most experimental and it's fantastic too.
