This album is really great!! It's more progressive (The Grand Conjuration) than the others.. but also is very good.. its like a mixture between Damnation (Isolation Years) and Blackwater Park (The Baying of the Hounds). | For me, the best songs are: - Reverie/Harlequin Forest - Hours of Wealth But all the album is awesome... buy it ;) Review by: Abeliux I fucking love Opeth, I bought this album the day it came out. Anyway, I'm quite glad to say this album fucking kicks ass! I didn't like damnation much, so this is a good come back well for me anyway :) Anyway this album is really good Ghost of Perdition is awesome and I think Antonement is the best easy listening song Opeth have EVER done, the keyboard done by Per Wiberg (the new memeber to Opeth) makes it beautiful. BUY THIS ALBUM 10/10 Review by: Ope†h New ground for opeth here, more progressive, less death. Yet, opeth once again creates perfection through experimentation. Hey bands change and become more mature. Deal with it! Opeth has matured to the point where they are no doubt the best band in all of music today. Ghost reveries conjures up some of the heaviest and most beatiful moments in Opeths archives. Its all here growls, riffs, and the best clear vocals akerfeldt has ever done.9/10 Review by: rack All I have to say is WOW really. Opeth have just about been my favorite band for a while now, and I believe every one of their albums is a masterpiece. And for some reason, I was actually concerned about this album... I thought it might have been bad. Well, fortunately, I couldn't have been more wrong. This album completely blows me away! It is another Opeth masterpiece in all aspects. This further proves that they just can't write a bad song. All 8 songs on this are incredible. They incorperate elements from all the other albums into different parts of it, while still maintaining an overall new "Ghost Reveries" feel. I even thought I heard Mikael doing Bloodbath-like vocals. The new keyboards and synth are also perfectly executed, I am also a fan of keyboards, so it might not be everyone's preference. Mikael does vocals like we've never heard before, Martin Lopez's drumming got even crazier. This album actually takes Opeth up even yet another notch, if that's even possible. I give this one a perfect 10, which rarely happens for me... it just seems that one of metal's finest have done what they can do best and created a new era of genious. Hail Opeth. Review by: lexcoma a welcom change back from damnations clean vocals to a mix of both grolws and clean.. not their best album and very different, but i like it alot, highly recomended 9/10 Review by: god Wow, is there anything this band can't do? I've been a huge Opeth fan for a while now and it seems they have no limits to what they can do. Ghost Reveries is one hell of an album, mixing some of the best prog metal riffs I've ever heard with soft prog rock riffs. As in the past, this has always proven to work for Opeth and Mikael Akerfeldt just knows how to put it all together. This is definately not the best observations of Opeth, however it is still an amazing album. 10/10, BUY OR DIE!!!! Review by: MetallicOpeth I find it rather strange that there's no review of this album yet. Here's one ...... This is a great album from a great band. There's nothing more to say about it. When it's good it's good and you don't need to say anything more. Review by: moeienox very good album but not as good as the godly deliverance or BWP.it lackcs of atmosphere and sadness.... Review by: harry old opeth fans may be very happy to hear this album!!!! though it is not one of my favorites per say, its a return from their much softer damnation(i didnt mind it, but i like this better) the songs dont have the same effect as the older albums, but they are still very good music, i recomend this to any opeth fan new or old 8/10 Review by: black metal warrior A fascinating album, with all of Opeth's wisdom and feeling in music. Great growls on "Grand Conjuration", clean voice extremely intense in "Isolation Years", Great Riffs in "Harlquin Forest"... all tracks are the expression of Opeth's genius to it's best. Review by: melmoth_dieu Upon my first listen of the album I highly anticipated I was rather surprised at the overall variation of riffs and melodies that made up each song. The best way to describe this album as a whole is a smooth mixture of Damnation-like ballads, trancing melodies that rival those of Deliverance, and straight-forward, heavy riffs. The first track of this album, Ghost of Perdition, delivers a blast of an intro that fades into a soothing ballad and back into classic Opeth melodies and heavy riffs. The whole album is highly experimental with different sounds, some of which are second nature to listeners who have heard their past albums while other sounds are very new to the band. If you're expecting a Damnation-sounding album, you might not be satisfied with this new compilation. Though 3 songs of the album might appeal to your expectations: Atonement, Hours of Wealth, and Isolation Years. Atonement is best described as the lost Damnation track. Veteran listeners who might have expected something more along the lines of Deliverance (like me) will probably enjoy this album because of the abundant trancing riffs (namely the ending of Reverie/Harlequin Forest). Finally, I'd like to add that Opeth has released a music video for The Grand Conjuration. The song is great, don't get me wrong, but the video could use work. Overall, Opeth's latest masterpiece will satisfy many Opeth fans who have heard past albums, as well as give new listeners a good idea of what Opeth sounds like. Though the latter should give Deliverance and Damnation a shot. 9.5/10 Review by: backdraft FINALLY!!!! Opeth returned 2 years after their final release 'Damnation' (2003) and 'Deliverance' (2002) two records which made me a very happy man when i first listened to them. Especially 'Damnation' surpirsed me in a very positive way. Opeth showed that they could easily write some descent rock songs. A lot has happened to Opeth since the release of 'Damnation' first of all they put out a descent DVD release called 'Lamentations', they toured for almost 12 months and the switched label. Because Musci for Nations was going into other hands, Opeth lost the label were the released 5 of their albums and 1 DVD in the period of 1997-2003. The new label definitaly came as a surprise: Roadrunner. A lot of so called 'fans' were speculating if Opeth wouldn't go to be the next Slipknot or Korn (i love these bands, but Opeth has to stay Opeth). A true Opeth fan should know better. And finally there was a new member. Per Wiberg (Keyboards) of Spiritual Beggars, who alrady toured with Opeth on their Damnation/Deliverance tour and also did keys and backing vocals on the 'Lamentations' DVD is from this album on a new full-time member of the band. The first track of this album 'Ghost of Perdition' is a great varied song. It starts of with a little piano intro. Then it explodes into a very (progressive-like) dramatic guitar riff, with great dirty grunts of mr. Åkerfeldt. Later on we get nice clean guitars and good, descent clean vocal work. Man i love these guys. 'The Baying of the Hounds' and 'Beneath the Mire' also contains the trusted Opeth formula of grunts/death metal/progressive influents (listen to the synths at the beginning of 'The Baing of the Hounds) and clean vocals. Atonement is one hell of a good rock song which could do it very good on the radio. My favorites are 'Reverie/Harlequin Forest' and 'The Grand Conjuration'. Especially 'The Grand Conjuration' is a real beauty with very brutal grunts and a nice varied structure! The drums sound very solid again, a little more flat then the previous albums, but i like the sound very much. The bass can be heard quit often and is also solid. The guitar work is sublime as always. The keys are more a background intstrument which is (to me) a very positive point. Its not too present. The production is done by Opeth themselves this time because Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree, worked with Opeth on 'Blackwater Park', 'Deliverance' and 'Damnation') wasn't available at the time. Man i can truly say that Opeth did the best they could do and that's making another solid masterpiece! PERIOD! rating: 9.0 Review by: khold666isgreat In my opinion, Ghost Reveries have all that we want in an album, great guittar riffs, fantastic drums and all the rest that we know about Opeth. Just one point that i dislike: It have some parts much reapeated and it makes the album shorter. We listen it some times and we get borred. It could be one of the betters if they have taken off some parts. Review by: kre8or Excellent!! I was very curious to know what kind of album Opeth could release this time! I must admit I was a little bit sceptic. I like "Damnation" album but I was afraid that Opeth continue in the same musical direction. And my fears disappeared when I listened this fabulous "Ghost Reveries". It's a very good mix between "Deliverance" and "Damnation", as good as "Blackwater Park" maybe better! It is not my preferred album but I think it's the best album composed by Opeth! As usual, artwork is perfect. Divine!! Review by: midian New opeth album + New label + keyboardist= STILL LIFE PT 2. There is more progression than death here. Yet OPETH once again prove themselves as the premier band in all of metal. It will take a few listens for this cd to grow on you, but it will. Highlight is Harlequin forest reverie. Definately one of the top 5 opeth tunes of all time. 9.5/10 RACK Review by: RACK Great album. Maybe the strongest material ever written. Songs are solid and the melodies are so nice. Much better than Deliverance. Review by: darkann So this is by far one of the most disappointing albums for me EVER. Possibly 2 songs i can listen to all the way through without getting so fucking bored I feel like falling asleep. I was one of the few supporting Opeth when they made the change to Roadrunner, big mistake on my part. WAY too overporduced, and the musicianship went down the shitter. Not for Opeth fans. 4/5 Review by: the agony scene I like a lot the other works by Opeth, my favourite ones were Morningrise and Blackwater Park... Since Gohst Reveries came out... Damn, this is their most mature Opeths's album. The sound it's mixed at it's best, the voices are very worked and the quality of sound it's great... I think that they are entering in a marked period of progressive metal, in their previous albums they were metal with some prog influences but in this album the work is obviously progressive, may we can explain that change with the latest works of Mikael on prog proyects like OSI, Porcupine Tree or Ayreon... Review by: Oblivion_sadness Another extraordinary Opeth album... "The Grand Conjuration" sounds as if it were the ballad of primordial chaos and "The Ghost of Perdition" seems as if were extracted from the raging flames of human anger. Other songs such as the " Reverie/ Harlequin Forest" are more like transition songs in "Ghost Reveries" and have both melodic and death metals elements. "Atonement" and "Isolation Years" are more mellow in sound, and more melancholy lyrically. All in all, an excellent addition to anyone's music collection. Review by: ghost of perdition Yes, it's always Opeth with great vocals and guitar parts, but ..... For me, always admiring they early works, this album has a lack of atmosphere, so touching before. All songs pass one after another without catching the ear. The musicians of Opeth are great at the point when they could play just something and it would be "Opeth", but personally, i was always waiting from these guys something more than just to play. And however, i would give 7/10 and i will wait for some greater. Review by: Collant opeth is getting greater and greater this days!what a comeback after a classical album!not that godly as deliverance!but still they are maintaining their quality and i admire them for not being "sold out".great going!hope to hear them soon! Review by: metal maniac to be honest,,this is the only high rated opeth album that dissapoint me.im honest.hail black water park, morningrise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review by: jad
