primigenic and powerfull album
majestic dark and strong melodies that remember me the first works of rotting christ but with the great sound of their last albums. great middle east chorus and samples. darker and harder than ever.

waiting for r.c again here in the desolate lands of colombia. | Review by: hanselhandrey non a good album -.- except for the 1st 4 songs the other sux..its like old albums repeating themselfs with different lyrics...their best albums is genesis this one sux as sanctus diabolos did Review by: penetralia Rotting Christ has lost somethin after Jim Mutilator(bass) has left the band in 1996 after the masterpiece ''Triarchy of the Lost Lovers'' that actually it was their last good album for me. The years to come after '96 were not so glorious as they used to be with average album releases. ''Theogonia'' came to their 20th year in the gengre to prove that Rotting Christ are alive and more strong than ever! ''Theogonia'' stands proud next to ''Non Serviam'' and ''Thy Mighty Contract''. The new CD is the closet example of what was happening in Hellas at the early 90's with of course much better production that Sakis(vox,guitar) himself put his hand on. Theogonia is the ancient Hellenic story about how the ancient Hellenic gods came into being and also can be found as cosmogony as well. The whole CDs' lyrical theme has to do with this tale except ''Enuma Elish''. The first song(Chaos Geneto) strike in with an ancient Hellenic quote and then the hellish vocals of Sakis introduces you to what's coming. A very fast and song with the melody is inspired by ancient Hellenic music. 2nd song ''Keravnos Kyvernitos'' that can be found also as a video clip is another classic Rotting Christ song with the bast beats reminds you the early era of the band. ''Nemecic'', is a slower song, an epic song actually with the adding of an ethnic instument of Hellas called Tsampouna and ages more than 2000 years, it's a bag-pipe like. ''Enuma Elish'' is base on the Sumerian mythology and I'm not sure but I think is the Sumerian theory of cosmogony, so they almost talk about the same tales but with different roots. This song is quite long and by my opinion had to be on their previous release ''Sanctus Diavolos'' and not in Theogonia. It has an industrial feeling with the help of Chris(Septic Flesh/Chaostar) on the choir parts that sounds like their coming from the depths of Tartarus! ''Phobos' Synagogue'' is the 5th track and it's a mid tempo song that easily could have been appeared on ''Passage to Arcturo'' or ''Thy Mighty Contract'' with the difference that the keyboards are in lower volume than the old days and actually this makes it even better. Now, the rest of the songs are all deserved to be mentioned but I'm gonna mentioned only ''Rege Dabolicus'' that is in the vein of the classic ''Sign of Evil Existence'' that it has been mentione in another review also. Believe me, it's been a long time since I liked a CD from the start to the end, buy it easily, the CD comes on deluxe digipack case with a DVD bonus and the video for ''Keravnos Kyvernitos''. Rotting Christ are back! 10/10! Review by: sotiricon This album seems to combine the strange atmospherics and vocals of 'Genesis' with the more melodic black metal approach of 'Sanctus Diavolos', the guitars sound quite different from what I've heard of Rotting Christ before. Nice and fast with flowing melodies and a deeper sound to the rythym guitars. A damn good album, to say the least it is unique. A perfect blend of their older and newer styles, with a little bit extra thrown in. I really like the vocals on this release, as well as all of the musicianship. Not a single weak track, this album is almost ethereal.
