The lack of sound quality and poor vocals lets this album slide away from what could have become a great CD. The production is great and Therion should consider redoing some of this material.

Actually this is Therions best release. No doubt about it. This CD contains no faggy opera-like singers and whole bunches of ugly woman, and the male singer uses awesome grunts and not the 'I-try-to-sing' vocals they used on some later albums. This is one of Sweden's finer deathmetal albums, very overlooked (example: the guy who wrote a review above this one). Great riffing in the familiar Swedish style, I don't know why, but I really dig that sound! I think people who like deathmetal HAVE to try this CD. And the girls who like nowadays Therion should rather avoid this, for they wouldn't sleep another night if they hear this!

This is absolutly the best Therion Album. Pure Death Metal with great riffing and also great vocals and without that gay sound they stand for today!

I decided to pull this out recently and was left unimpressed. Therion were great musicians at this time in their lifespan but there's nothing dark about this at all. The lyrics are a bit too hilarious and "positive" and the riffs seem to be more on the "rocking" side than conjuring up darkness. Not too surprizing since Mr. Johnsson was always a fan of Heavy Metal. Some really great atmospheric guitar parts do exist though, for example the whammy intros to Genocidal Raids and Time Shall Tell. Very pedestrian, not what I'd listen to if I were in the mood for real Death Metal.
