I was so put off by the ineptitude of the typography and general graphic design on this cd that I simply could not bring myself to | listen to the album until I finally read a review in Ancient Ceremonies #5 which made me reconsider my earlier dismissal. This Finnish quartet's music turns out to be outstanding in quality, after all. "Inferno" offers a brand of heavy Black / Death Metal with screamed and growled vocals, played fast for the most part (but with variety in the tempi), and enhanced by melodic lead and non-intrusive, majestic keyboard highlights. The music has been composed in a manner not dissimilar to the way melodic Swedish Black / Metal is assembled, but the here it is dark and much more aggressive, and doesn't sound Swedish. The rhythm guitars are heavy and possess the necessary degree of crunch in order to cut through the mix effectively, and, though the punchy kick drums could use extra definition at the top end and the cymbals are a bit dull and in the background, the snare and toms are clear and have a nice sound. Overall, the sound is powerful and crisp, which is what this kind of velocious, violent extreme Metal needs. Though not the apex of originality, the quality is so high that it would be indeed quite difficult to go wrong with this item.
