OK, I'll start with a couple of disclaimers. First, I thought Mother Earth was the most perfect piece of music ever conceived of. Second, this is a bit on the poppy side, much more so than many readers like i know, but i like it, and that's that. That being said, I think this is a very worthy follow-up to Mother Earth, it's beautiful and emotional, but to me it's not quite on the same level. That doesn't keep it from getting 10 out of 10 from me. Stylistically it's pretty much the same as Mother Earth, the songs are shorter on average and a bit more poppy as I said before. Forsaken is among the more beautiful pieces I've ever heard I think, Jillian, Stand My Ground, Memories, Aquarius and Somewhere deserve a mention as well. If you're open-minded about this style, or in the mood for something mellowed out, do yourself a favor and pick this up. If those circumstances don't apply to you, don't waste your time. | Review by: msatan81 I was a little bit disapointed by this Within Temptation release. Before listening to the album, I had watched the promo video of "Stand My Ground", and, on my concern, it is a copy of Evanescence. The music is not bad at all, but it is not Within Temptation. The "nu-metal guitars" are evident in this song. Even the photography of the video seems like the Evanescence's video of "Bring Me To Life". I don't think that Evanescence is a bad band, but if I wanted to listen to altern rock I would put an Evanescene CD on my player, not a Within Temptation one. The rest of the album is quite different of the single, but it's also no like their previous works. It has not the doom/gothic metal cadence of Enter, neither the pop metal structure of Mother Earth. The other songs have more a orchestral enviorement, with choirs and a few beautiful instrumental interludes. And, as a matter of fact, Sharon is great singing in this album. But here is a warning, this is not a doom or gothic (in it's essence) metal album. If you're a fan of these styles and not of Within Temptation, I don't think you'll like it. I tried, but I couldn't find an appropriate label to describe this album. I liked best the songs "Angels" and "Aquarium", in despite of their being the calmest of the album, The two first tracks are also good, problably the best of the heavy songs. Briefing, this CD did not impress me, but if you´re a fan of the band you'll probably enjoy it because of the great singing of Sharon Den Adel, as I said before. Review by: Walter Jr Disapointing!!!! thats what it is!!!!!!!!!!!!! once there their music was wery good and the had their own style. But it have been replaced with some mainstream crap and they sound far too much like evanescence instead of focusing on the music, it sounds like they only want to make money out of it and they have lost all their charm!! this is not an album with genius songs like Mother earth, but only boring hit singles with "sing along chrous" instead of a good atmosphere! the only song I realy like is the ballad "somewhere". Perhaps the rest of the songs are okey, but WT can make it a lot better than this!!!! to all the fans I can say: They have sold out! This is perhaps the end of a once great band!!!!! If you haven't heard WT before: Don't buy this!!!!!! buy Mother earth instead! Review by: Cemetery fog First off, I love Within Temptation, and after listening to Mother Earth, I was recluctant to listen to The Silent Force, beacuse i had heard bad reviews, but overall i think it is perhaps better than Mother Earth. Yes, it is slightly more poppy, than preivous records, and Stand My Ground may sound a little Evanescencency, but I don't mind cuz i love Evanescence too. There is a disticnt different between the two musics though, and I don't think the rest of the album should be reviewed on that comparision. The best tracks in my opinion, are Angels, Aquarius, It's The Fear, and Somewhere, and the tracks on this album are alot more ''catchy'' than those on Mother Earth. Overall, a 10 out of 10 from me! I couldn't ask for anything better from WT!!! chloe Review by: chloe110189 Liked it alot.Made me fall in love with the band. Review by: Maitri
