Darkthrone = Fenriz
One of the best album from darkthrone in years.
This band just wont give up, and pulls it up with this damn good album :)

Same type of thing as Hate Them, but a tad more unremarkable. It's still good to see someone getting back to the old style Venom black metal.

I'm very impressed of Darkthrone's latest output. It sounds more raw and evil than "Hate them!".
In my opinion it sounds a little bit like their legendary "Panzerfaust"-Album, with its "Hellhammer-" and "Celtic Frost"-influences.
To say it with other words: this is real great stuff!

There is only one thing about "Sardonic Wrath", that I don't like too much: there are too many midtempo-songs and only two real fast ones: "Information wants to be syndicated" and "Hate is the Law".

All in all, "Sardonic Wrath" is (until now) the biggest positive surprise in 2004 and every Black-Metal-Fan should build a big altar in his living room to worship Fenriz and Nocturno Culto for the amazing undergroundy True-Black-Metal-Sound they created on this CD.

i was surprised about how fast they released another album and i must say that i am a quite disappointed. this album seems to be the leftovers of "hate them".i am a long time follower of darkthrone but i am not unconditional. there are some worthy songs but not enough to keep me satisfied and i think that the voice is too low in the mix and something i love from darkthrone is the nocturno culto's "sore throat"vocals and they are wasted here.

Deep within I thought Darkthrone's days were over. Don't get me wrong, I fucking loved "Hate Them", I just wouldn't dare to dream of a new ass kicking cd from Norway's darkest sons (though the name Gylve Nagel (Fenriz) doesn't sound especially evil... he he). Well, this album... I was pleased to hear that they still have the ability to make cool music by keeping up the bad production and rusty sound. "Sardonic Warth" reminds a lot of "Hate Them", and there is nothing new compared with that. So if you allready have got "Hate Them" in your collection, then "Sardonic Wrath" is actually just an extended edition of "Hate Them". Sjakk Matt Jesu Krist!!!

9 out of 10

Good..but pretty much the same as Hate Them...
Bleh...I'm not even disappointed..cause I know they are not anymore what they once were, so my expectations were not that high.
8/10

Itīs funny to se how this guys have "evolved", Iīm of the belief that the Transilvanian Hunger, if not the best; itīs the most representative album of the band, but think about this, Darkthrone has been developing their music
in this direction since the release of Goatlord, now, every album released sounds like the next chapter of a whole history that begins in the Ravishing Grimness release, but what if they continued their music like the transilvanian, all the releases would sound like Panzerfaust... very monotone, without the the things that made T.H. unique, anyway I really enjoy the Darkthrone direction in their 4 last releases, now they are gone, and gone for good. The album is not quite satisfactory like Hate Them, even Plaguewielder... if you want to hear true black metal, play the Transilvanian Hunger in your stereo and stop complaining, in case you want to see how destructive can be the time, the fame and the ideologies... you could enjoy this one.

This album is the first one in my eyes which can top the old day. I like a lot of Darkthrone but none of the albums was as good as A Blaze....untill this.
This album overtopped the old days in my eyes. Its still simple, effective and old-school sounding (which has alway marked Darkthrone). Guitars sound somewhat more effective than past recordings, somehow they sound more harsh in my eras. Drums are as always simple but effective.
Ladys, Gentleman this is just one of the best "true" black metal cd's ever made, forget Transilvanian Hunger and Under a Funeral Moon get this one!

8.5 / 10 (same as A Blaze...)

Very good indeed! I didn't expect an album like this to be released nowadays.
It's proper Black Metal done right! A true rarity these days.
It's good to know that these guys are still going fuckin' strong.

I'm really surprise by this album. The last album that I bought from this band was Total Death and then I was a little disapointed from it but I must admit this record is so great. I will by the older one that I don't have. Amazing Darkthrone simply amazing !!
