Total Death? Yeh, more like totally Shit! | Review by: Duplo_mccarthy Unlike a lot of others I do like this album. Its dark and heavy sound still has the hypnotizing DARKTHRONE feeling. Its a lot better than Panzerfaust at least. Lyrics are written by Nocturno Culto, Satyr, Garm and some others. Not really interesting and nothing like Fenriz's lyrics. The ugly black metal -period began on "A Blaze in the Northern Sky", and ended on "Panzerfaust". "Total Death" brings us more talented side of Darkthrone, since the riffs are more complex and musical than just simple powerchord -strumming. Guitar distortion is rough as always, but the gain -effect is slightly lighter and the bass guitar has a kind of 'humming' sound. So, the production is good, what else? In fact, there are also a few good songs, like "Earth's Last Picture" (one of the best Darkthrone songs), "Blasphemer" and "The Serpent's Harvest". Nocturno Culto uses same kind of vocals here like on "Under a Funeral Moon" -album. Overall a bit above average album, and in my opinion this album is better than "Transylvanian Hunger" CD. Oh yes, and disregard Duplo_McCarty's review! This is not total shit. Maybe not at the same level of their most celebrate works, but in my opinion better than controversial records as “Panzerfaust” or “Goatlord”. Review by: dark-girl it's great for everyone but only one year after panzerfaust..........can't be compared....it's a pity 'cuz it's great had it the sound of ravishing grimness.............. even the best, sometimes sleeps Review by: o this album and ravishing grimness makes what I call the third darkthrone's period (fenriz said 'the boring darkthrone period'...), an intermezzo between old and new darkthrone we can say... it's a great album in his loneliness...it sounds like 'don't know where to go', like a weakening identity emerging, in fact it will be the last darkthrone album for three years, and there's a lot of hands that worked on it... It's the most sad among darkthrone's works...it seemed really to be an end , and the cover, recalling the soulside journey one, underlines it. anyway, again, fucking great.. Review by: matti babe
