This is the most atmospheric album of darkthrone. The album is really one, the songs suit perfectly together. Darkthrone takes you back through cold and pure anti-christ forests. The best way to listen to this album is play it at night in a dark room, be alone, and let the music get you... | Review by: blackstar666 this is darkthrone's 3rd black metal release...and it's their worst.it's an album you have to listen to in one piece than it's an good album but without any highlite.always the same monotonous rythm, the same beat and the same powerchord riff played on high speed. just for true black metalheads! Review by: nordgott Simply THE black metal album. Even uglier, more primitive and colder than Under a Funeral Moon. People who dont know black metal should stay out of it. Review by: Schaambaard What can you say about this album? Words don't really begin to explain it. The production is horrible( entirely intentional)and the songs are monotonous droners. So why do I find myself constantly listening to it? Because it's pure hatred set to music and the atmosphere sucks you in. I wasn't all that fond of it whem I first got it. Now, however, after repeated listens, I don't go anywhere without it. The melodies in the riffs sneak up on you. You don't really hear them at first but after you listen a few times you'll hear notes that you didn't notice before. A seminal black metal album, one of a kind really. I've yet to hear anything that sounds like this. Review by: venom815 Darkthrone - Transilvanian Hunger is pure Black Art. It's not perfect, the beat are monotonous, we can't that there's a very technical level, the riffs are not all genious. But with this necrorgonic sound, these atmospheres, this pure misanthropy, these majestuous riffs and this voice I can say that Transilvanian Hunger contains the essance of LHP. Cover in black and white, a Nihilism Satanism and to finish NORSK ARISK BLACK METAL. It's not a stereotype, but an archetype... This is True Black Art. Hail Satanism Hail Nihilism Hail Darkthrone Review by: ostentation.nihiliste I know this is a taboo thing to say but this album is pure unimginative, boring crap. A crack head could fall asleep listening to this. Review by: Lord Valor DARKTHRONE - TRANSILVANIAN HUNGER "Transilvanian Hunger", the closing part of the trilogy suite (consisting of ABitNS, UaFM and TH) is one of the most respected albums from one of the most respected metal acts from Norway. I did expect much from this album, but for my dissappointment, the album opened with very good title track, but then... christ what a mess. Not even adequate black metal. The sound quality is bad (of course) and I have got used to it, vocalwork is very 'necro' and musicianship is hideous as one might expect. But this is what I like on ABitNS and UaFM, but what the hell is wrong now? Probably the songwriting which is not even close to the material on the previous CDs. Of course there are good parts in some songs, but overall (without counting the title track), the music is bad. This album was a big dissappointment, since I have got so much recommendations and other compliments about this album from well-respected sources. I didn't like this album, but obviously many others found it great. So there is a chance that you might not like the album, but try it anyway (if you haven't already done that). A bit less average rate. 4 out of 10 Review by: Punisher i just recently got the original transilvanian hunger with the famous "Norsk Arisk Black Metal" back on the cover, wich means "Nnorwegian Aryan Black metal". well, over to the music. I think trans hunger along with blaze and under a funeral moon sets the standard for darkthrone`s best period.. I almost forgot, Panzerfaust must also be in this shit.. well, musically trans hunger is just a repetive album with a very filth garage sound, wich makes the beauty of this album. lyrically the cd is FUCKING awesome.. darkthrone has got varg vikernes a.k.a. Count Grishnack to write four really good songs.. fenriz has written the other four.. Mmainly the lyrics is about norse and ancient histories and a little about satanism.. i recommend this album as one of the best black metal cd`s in the world!!! try to get the original, like i did.. Review by: Passkukk Great Album. One of the best releases of Norway's best BM-Band! So pure... so dark... evil... TRANSILVANIAN HUNGEEEEEEER!!!!!!!!!!!! Review by: warhellhammer definetly the best black metal album ever.. nothing will ever top this.. very evil and atmospheric.. magificent! Review by: kukkost Hail and bow down to this mighty release. This is the purest grimness ever unleashed on an audio suport by a band. The 80's had Bathory's "The Return..." but in the 90's Darkthrone made the return of Darkness and Evil for real on "Transilvanian Hunger". No words can describe the nocturnal thrill that haunts the listener if he/she has the guts for an active listening of this CD. What Nocturno Culto, Zephyrous and Fenris did on this album is definitely not music but Black Metal Trance in the most unclean and unholy form. Those who don't get into this release may for sure throw away all their Black Metal CDs and start listening to Cradle Of Filth and Madonna. ÆRE VÆRE DARKTHRONE !!! Review by: Schaerban the ultimate darkthrone!!!ultimate cold grim evilness, primitive and beautiful!!!aaaahhh!!!masterpiece Review by: magus_caligula This is the most dark and sinister record ever.. Review by: kukkost This is very monotonous. It is still good as it is Darkthrone but nowhere near as good as anything before or after. The weakest darkthrone album in my opinion, period! Review by: deathshandbag Ý am listen first and album song of this album! Ý dont know any words about this album...only..KÝLLER!!!! A MASTERPÝECE! So pure..DARK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review by: Beyto Obliviously the best Darkthrone release. The sonic expression of coldness, grimness, darkness and hate. Primitive it is, but really shows the essence of the Norwegian Black Metal. The ultimate Darkthrone album. Review by: Goatworship This is the best black metal album ever. Transilvanian Hunger is so Grim, Cold, Misanthropic, Hateful And Evil. This is the true spirit of black metal, True Black Metal. So pure, so cold! And the album cover is cold! Review by: VarjoSusi This is one of the most uncompromising albums of all time. It's like a carpet of evil black noise. The title track is fucking great. Review by: Triumphant Gleam I consider Hunger the masterwork of black metal. Music so repetitive that the slightest changes seem epic and huge, the cover that seems like a degraded photocopy, production so bad you can hear them turning off the tape-recorder, vocals so angry and furious I was shocked into stillness. Never before and never since have I heard anything like it. Bend over and receive DARKTHRONE. Review by: Vore Devastation, Blasphemy, Desecration, Unholy (T)He(y) who Burned the face of god with the Ice of this Album! It's Darkthrone themselves. Review by: unknown soldier So dark... so cold... ahhh. This album has such an intense atmosphere you can´t escape. Forget the newer stuff. together wither "A blaze.." and " Under.." this is darkthrone best album. Pure hatred pure BM. Review by: Sleipnir Ok i will give you my honest opinion. If you are into Black Metal than this is the perfect album for you. But if you are concerned about good sound quality then this album isn't what you want. Personally i found the sound quality bad, but at the same time found the music interesting and haunting. I would give this album a 3.5/5 because of the sound quality. other than that i would give it a 5/5!!! Review by: blackpianist it's ok, i think it could be a shit load better Review by: EarthPentacle This album is great. Only true black metalers will really appriciate this album. This has a great atmosphere and feeling in the songs. The sound quality is perfect and I'm not being sarcastic. If the sound quality was good to descent, then the meaning would be lost. This is one of my three favorite darkthrone albums. They are just a band that has it right. The riffs are dark, sinister, cold, ugly, and bitter. This album is fucking perfect. I think that it is one of the best releases from Norway ever! Anyone looking for true black metal then listen to Bathory first, then Darkthrone. Ha! Just listen to it. 10/10 Review by: wintersheart THis is darkthrones best, no doubt about it. This is icecold and has some really beautiful melodies, just listen to skald av satans sol, en aas i dype skogen and slottet i det fjerne. If you like true norwegian, pagan black metal, this is the first to get. 11/10! Review by: manndaudsvinter Beautiful... One of the most markable albums, in the history of Blackmetal.. But, it's good, that Darkthrone only made one of these.. 10/10 Review by: kurja This is properbly one of the best blackmetal albums ever. It's simply pure, cold and misanthropic. The only thing you could possible criticize are the vocals, they could be a bit more hateful. Review by: winterwind Technically, this album is simply horrible. But I love every second of it. Review by: Ravishing hipness the good: Darkthrone is a band with the ability to make long melodic riffs without too much effort. The overal atmosphere of this album sounds organic, and although simple, some of the riffs create epic emotions at times. The rasps create a dark mood which fits the music. The bad: After you repeat a part for about 20 times it becomes really annoying. Most songs just consist of 2 melodies which go back and forth. The drumming is just too simple_I'm not asking for for super technical beats... just some descent fills which wont sound clugged up. The guitars don't play anything other than usual double-pick style which becomes monotonous after a while. I know this is black metal, but even compare to the Black Metal from the same era (Burzum, Emperor, immortal) this sounds too primitive. I dont mean to shit on something everyone likes but this just doesn't cut it for me. Maybe time will change my mind somehow(I cant see how), But for now, in my opinion, this just might be the most overrated and over praised black metal album. BottomLine: Some parts have a dark and nice atmosphere but you lose interest after the 10th time that it's repeated. 6/10 Review by: lucifer6 music no need to be exact for enjoy it, bad production, regular riffs, may monotonous, simple arrangements, cero orquestation, but when I listen it, I don´t comprehend why I like to me, I don´t comprehend why I prefer Trans. Hunger instead another band that may have excelent production, Don´t you try to comprehend the music, just enjoy it... This album is just for who want to go to the dark realms of black metal. Review by: Northvisions Fenriz and Nocturno Culto-Kings of BLACK METAL. This album is a true black metal. "Over fjell og gjennom torner" Review by: arrggh This is great, true BLACK METAL album. Fenriz and Nocturno Culto-The black metal kings. My favourite song is the "Over fjell og gjennom torner" Review by: arrggh This is amazing! one of the black metal masterpieces... the riff of the first track is one of the best riffs ever it's full of pathos! Great Album the best of Fenriz & Nocturno Culto Review by: Frost86 This is one of the most respected BM albums ever, what can I say about it... There are many great songs on this album, especially "Transilvanian Hunger", "Skald Av Satans Sol", "Slottet i det Fjerne" and "En As I Dype Skogen" but the same drum beat gets boring over time. The greatest riffs are found on the songs I noted before, but songs like "As Flittermice As Satans Spys" and "I En Hall Med Flesk Og Mjod" repeat the same riffs too much. This is a good CD but Darkthrone can do better. 7,5/10. Review by: Golfimbul Well, after a little hesitation - I actually decided to purchase this DT CD, already owning 4 of their other earlier period works. As soon as I put it on, I was immediately impressed by the evilness present. This is BM in its purest form - Ulver's Nattens Madrigal would also be put in this category. It is fast and monotonous but it just sounds so damn grim and evil - I love it Review by: shanewick in collaboration with the genious varg vikernes, a monolith to black metal, you hardly can distinguish one song from the other, baptized in sadness and depression, full of a dark gloomy happiness, slottet i det fjerne his high peak, it comes from too far, it goes too far...if you thought once in your life the words black metal, you must know this jewel..... H7.22!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review by: o An acquired taste really, constant blast beats and repetitive riffs and muffled production is certainly not going to appeal to most, but its an important album as we all know. Not greatly to my liking but a few tracks really standout to me,including the last one 'En As I Dype Skogen',the riffs are just fucking bleak.... 5.5/10 Review by: -Vomïtzodïak- Haha,as if I need to review this.I think if your considering buying this, you will have read all the reviews and basically get the general idea of this album. The riffs and quite straightforward, repetitive but with a hint of melody, mystery and that 'grim' touch, these being the backbone of the songs, the drums serve as a beat.Well,a constant blast beat for that matter.Boring, but in a good way (?).The vocals are typical BM vox, very nice. And the production is deliberately poor and muffles, which adds to the atmosphere but subtracts too... So yeah you get the idea. You'll come to like it.If you do you do if you dont you dont. Review by: -Vomïtzodïak- This is a no class Darkthrone album...Hard to say something...even the wrong side of this album makes its legend.... (Varg Vikernes wrote half of the lyrics.) Sounds so far that when it's over you don't know who you are anymore.... Review by: matti babe
